Pack and PlayPack and Play is a lunch program provided Monday through Friday for all children except Cubs. It is a great time for children to gather from 11:15 to 12:15 to have lunch together, and learn about how to eat good food to keep their bodies healthy and strong. After lunch is eaten, it will also incorporate different types of organized physical activity. Lunches are provided by the parent, and need to have their child’s name printed clearly on them. Lunches should not contain glass bottles or anything that would need heating or microwaving. Please provide a nutritious meal. Morning session children will be escorted to lunch bunch by one of their teachers. Afternoon session children can be taken directly to Pack and Play by their parent.
Pack and Play is offered in three sessions throughout the school year; fall, winter and spring. You must re-register for each session. No one is automatically carried over from the previous session. Pack and Play sessions are $8 per day. Once you commit to a session, you are responsible for payment for that session whether your child attends every day or not. If you choose to discontinue or change days, a waiting list is maintained and additions, changes or withdrawals can only be made if there is a child to fill your position. Each family must reregister at the end of each session to allow all families an equal opportunity to participate. Billing statements will be sent home with each family. As a reminder, when you pack your child’s lunch for Pack & Play, it is required by licensing that you include foods from all four food groups in order to meet the recommended daily dietary allowance. A well-rounded, balanced lunch will contribute to your child’s overall health and well-being.
The importance of nutrition and healthy choices are emphasized in our Pack & Play program. The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services states that “a meal shall meet one-third of the recommended daily dietary allowances as specified by the United States department of agriculture. This includes at a minimum, one serving of fluid milk, one serving of meat or meat alternative, two servings of vegetables and/or fruits (one serving of each is recommended) and one serving of bread or grains.” Thank you for your support as we work to keep nutrition an important part of your child’s Pack & Play experience. Please send a lunch with your child(ren) that includes foods from all of the four main food groups listed on the new food pyramid which includes:
- Grains
- Fruits & Vegetables
- Milk & Dairy Products
- Meats, Beans and Fish
